How to properly preserve wooden molds to extend their service life in the production of large steel castings?
2024-08-14 13:48:48

The manufacturing of large steel castings is a complex process that includes multiple steps such as mold design, steel melting, casting, cooling, and post-treatment. Due to its large size and weight, higher requirements are placed on the stability, size, and strength of wooden molds. If the wooden mold cannot maintain these characteristics, the cast steel parts may have dimensional deviations, surface defects, and other issues, which can affect the performance and lifespan of the product.

The design and manufacturing of wooden molds usually require fine craftsmanship and rich experience, and the cost is relatively high. Therefore, how to properly preserve and maintain wooden molds to extend their service life is of great significance for reducing production costs and improving work efficiency.

Pay attention to controlling humidity for large cast steel wooden molds. Wood has a certain degree of moisture absorption, and high or low environmental humidity can cause deformation. The storage environment should maintain appropriate humidity.

Severe temperature changes cause thermal expansion and contraction of wood, affecting the structural stability of wooden molds. Therefore, storing wooden molds in an environment with minimal temperature changes is necessary.

Wood is susceptible to insect invasion, and timely anti-corrosion treatment can damage the wooden formwork and prolong its service life.

Clean the wooden mold after use and apply maintenance oil to prevent the wood from drying and cracking. Regularly inspect for damage or wear and promptly repair.

Due to its large volume, wooden molds should not be stacked randomly. They should be placed flat or supported by a frame to ensure that large cast steel wooden molds do not deform.
